By 1786 Florissant, Missouri’s first civil government was formed by a name named Francois Dunegant dit Borosier. Francois Dunegant dit Borosier served as the town’s first military and civil commander.  By 1787 over 40 people and 7 plantations that made up the town of Florissant. The name and language of the town was in constant debate between the French and Spanish. It wasn’t until 1889 that the debate was finalized with most of the townspeople speaking French.
