Introduction
Dr. Robert C. Russell is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who holds certifications from the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the Federal Licensing Exam, a Diplomat from the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a Fellow Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Dr. Russell earned his undergraduate's degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana in 1968. He then went on to earn his Medical degree from the Indiana School of Medicine in 1972.
Dr. Russell completed several different Internships, Residencies and Fellowships. He attended the Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis in 1972 to complete a year internship with the Department of Surgery. He then moved on to complete a general surgery and plastic surgery residency from Indiana University's School of Medicine from 1973-1976.
Dr. Russell then completed a second Plastic Surgery Residency at Southern Illinois University's School of Medicine for two years. Dr. Russell completed a plastic surgery fellowship at New York University's School of Medicine, James W. Strickland Fellowship in Hand surgery at St. Vincent's Hospital of Indianapolis, and a Microsurgery Research Unit Fellowship at St. Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
He has also held several academic positions at Southern Illinois University's School of Medicine. He was the: Assistant professor from 1980-1984, Chief of section of Microsurgery and Research from 1980-1999, an Associate Professor from 1984-1987, Professor from 1987-1999, and is currently a Clinical Professor since 1999.
