Introduction
Dr. McKay McKinnon is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in Chicago. A native North Carolinian and son of nurse and a general surgeon, Dr. McKinnon received both his Undergraduate and Medical degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. McKinnon completed his General Surgery residency at the Harvard Surgical Service – New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston and his Plastic Surgery residency at the University of Miami. Dr. McKinnon continued his education with a Research Fellowship under Dr. Joseph Murray in Plastic Surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital and was awarded a Mailman Fellowship in Craniofacial Plastic Surgery at the University of Miami. In 1983-84, Dr. McKinnon was a fellow of Dr. Paul Tessier in Paris, France.
Dr. McKinnon has been on the clinical teaching faculty at The University of Chicago from 1985 – 2009 where he conducted research, trained residents and students, introduced several new surgical techniques and developed a national and international reputation.
Dr. McKinnon is associated with various medical organizations which include: The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The American Association of Plastic Surgeons, The American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, The International Society of Craniofacial Surgeons, The American Society of Craniofacial Surgeons and other regional and local surgical organizations.
Throughout his career, Dr. McKinnon published and presented new surgical findings related to both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. He has been honored by several organizations including recurrent selection by his peers to the Best Doctors in America list. Some of his surgical contributions have been presented on The Learning Channel, Discovery Health Channel and The Oprah Winfrey Show. Since 1985, Dr. McKinnon has led annual missionary surgical teams to Choluteca, Honduras.
