Q: Does Botox ever cause permanent nerve damage? Answer »
A: There are no reported cases of this happening. But you will lose the ability to use your facial muscles for expression in the area of injection for up to six months
Q: I am confused about whether a breast implant should be put over or under the muscle. Answer »
A: About 60% of plastic surgeons put it over the muscle. Putting it under the muscle is very painful postoperatively, destroys the pectoralis muscle because it needs to be cut and does not offer any advantage to the patient. But it is quicker and easier to perform that way.
Q: Why do so many people look "pulled" after a face lift? Answer »
A: Sometimes because the surgeon has made an error, but most often because the person has had too many face lifts. The artificial look will not occur after only two face lifts.
Q: What are the risks of having a nose job? Answer »
A: The real risk is not with the surgery, it is with the surgeon that you chose. Not every plastic surgeon knows how to do the operation in a way that produces a natural looking nose. The only risk to your health is the chance of a severe nosebleed that could happen about a week after the surgery.
Q: Why can you tell whenever someone has had a nose job? Answer »
A: You can't. In fact you can almost never detect nasal surgery when it has been done skillfully. You can only distinguish the bad ones.
Q: How many pounds can I lose from a liposuction? Answer »
A: Liposuction is not for losing weight. It is for changing body contour. The weight you lose could vary from one to ten pounds, but you would look like you lost a lot more.
Q: I have heard that people have died from liposuction. Is it true? Answer »
A: Unfortunately yes. However, in competent hands, liposuction is one of the safest operations one can have. Deaths have occurred when too much of the so-called "tumescent" has been administered that can upset the fluid balance of the body, or when too many areas have been liposuctioned at one time.
Q: Does the fat removed during liposuction ever come back? Answer »
A: No. When you gain weight your fat cells enlarge, they don't multiply. So when most of the fat cells are removed from an area, the few that are left can't make new ones, and the ones that are gone can certainly never store fat. If you gain weight, you'll put it elsewhere.

A: A face lift might solve your problem.
Q: I'm considering a lower/upper bleph and rhino--can I do both at once? What are the chances of blindness resulting from Bleph? Answer »
A: Yes, you can certainly have an upper and lower blepharoplasty and a rhinoplasty done at the same time. I looked into the blindness question several years ago and found that there were eight reported cases in the medical literature. There were about a quarter of a million such procedures performed last year alone, so the operation has probably been done over 5 million times in the past 25 years. Small risk.
Q: I am seeking a blepharoplasty, upper and lower. How should I choose my surgeon? What do you think about anoculoplastic surgeon? Answer »
A: You need to have a board certified plastic surgeon do your surgery. My experience is that occuloplastic surgeons do reconstruction and not usually cosmetic surgery. You can find a plastic surgeon at www.perfectyourself.com

Q: If a neuroma is removed from the nerve that controls my right eyebrow will i lose control of that eyebrow? Will control ever return? Answer »
A: It depends on precisely where the neuroma is located and whether the main body of the nerve can be preserved. You really need to ask your surgeon this specific question as he knows the details.
Q: I am considering breast reduction. I wanted to know is liporeduction ever used? The breast reduction procedure makes me very nervous but it is very important for me to have it done. I am afraid of the dangers of the surgery. Answer »
A: Liposuction can definitely reduce the volume of the female breast. However, if the volume of the reduction is very large, the danger is that the skin will not shrink sufficiently and the breasts will droop even more.
Q: what are the current methods for inserting breast implants underneath the brest armpit or belly button Answer »
A: The preferred methods are through an incision in the breast fold or within the armpit. Placement through the belly button is not at all recommended. The pocket to receive them cannot be adequately dissected, the implants cannot be properly placed and the implant manufacturers will not guarantee them if they are inserted that way.
Q: What happens to the skin where you have removed the fat? It seems like to me it would just hang and look just as bad as the fat. Answer »
A: Most often, the skin shrinks up completely after liposuction. If it is done in areas with a lot of stretch marks or on older patients, the skin may not shrink or could appear very irregular.
Q: Do you recommend an open or closed capsulotomy for a capsular contracture post breast augmentation? Please explain... thanks. Answer »
A: I recommend closed capsulotomy. Almost always the capsule will return with the same consequences if an open capsulotomy is performed
Q: Dear Doctor, I have trouble breathing through my nose at night when I am trying to sleep. What should I take in getting this corrected? I may have a deviated septum. My nose was broken several years ago. Answer »
A: You probably have a deviated septum that can be corrected by surgery. Don't rely on nasal sprays as they can cause serious problems when used for long periods of time.
Q: I want to have a breast Augmentation and Rhinoplasty. Can they be done a the same time? Answer »
A: I believe that most doctors would do both operations at the same time. I have done this in the past.

A: If you have excess breast tissue under your breasts (called the "axillary tail"), it could probably be removed with liposuction.
Q: do you preform surgeries in the vaginal area? Answer »
A: Plastic surgeons do not usually perform such operations. I suggest that you consult with a gynecologist.
Q: Can you get lipo and Breast Implants done at the same time and what is the recovery time??? If you can is this safe to do. Answer »
A: Yes, you could have both a a liposuction and a breast augmentation done at the same time and it is certainly safe to do so. Recovery time if the implants are under the muscle is at least a week. If over the muscle, about three days. The liposuction recovery is a few days but it depends on the extent of the lipo.
Q: i'm tin and can'tseem to get rid of my tummy, will lipo do ay good to flatten my tummy, and about wat is the cost of the sergery? Answer »
A: Liposuction will certainly flatten your tummy if there is fat present. If your abdominal muscles have been damaged by pregnancy or if you have extensive stretch marks, then a tummy tuck might be indicated. The costs vary depending on the method used, the doctor's expertise and the amount of surgery needed.
Q: I was looking into liposuction surgery in my stomach area, will I be able to carry children after this procedure? Answer »
A: Yes, you will be able to bear children after a liposuction. The only thing that happens with a liposuction is that fat is removed from under your skin.
Q: Have you heard of a mini tummy tuck and would you recomend this procedure in comparison with a full tuck? I am thin but have a pouch from pregnancy. What would you suggest in my case. Answer »
A: Mini tummy tucks are indicated when there is not a lot of loose skin or stretch marks and only the part of the abdomen below the navel protrudes. It can be combined with a liposuction in that area.
Q: My 14 yr old daughter has hundreds of stretch marks on legs from long-term corticosteroid cream use for eczema. She is not obese. Extremely self-conscious now, needs help. Answer »
A: Unfortunately there is nothing that will remove stretch marks. Don't waste your money on products that claim they can do so.

A: Webbed toes can usually be fixed by a skillful surgeon. It would be best to see a plastic surgeon who specializes in hand surgery. I know of no adverse effects.

A: In my personal experience: Infection 1 in 1000. Bleeding after surgery 1 in 200. Capsular contracture (hardness) 5% to 7% (over the muscle). Rippling - varies according to risk factors. Implant failure (saline) 1 in 1600 (Mentor smooth walled implants) Published reports may be much higher.
